LocalArabia was launched in June 2006, as the first newspaper of its kind in the UK. aims to be available in over 450 outlets with a carefully-studied distribution plan of over 150,000 copies every month across the UK.

LocalArabia is a free weekly bilingual Arabic-English newspaper targeting the local British-Arab community, estimated at over 800000 people.

LocalArabia is a newspaper which promotes the inclusion of the British-Arab population in Britain. It encourages the adoption of this hyphenated identity. Our aim is to raise awareness of multiple layers of identity, fostering a sense of belonging to the UK. Moreover, LocalArabia heavily feature articles that highlight the rights and responsibilities of British-Arabs and Arabs of other countries, developing a deeper understanding of British citizenship and its concurrent roles and responsibilities.

At the same time, LocalArabia is a source of information and reference for other ethnicities in Britain who we hope will acquire a more realistic understanding of the diversity of Arab culture as well as reconsider some of the stereotypes they harbour.

LocalArabia provides previews and coverage of all local Arab events, be they lectures, concerts, performances…etc. It will therefore become a resource for British-Arabs to know what is going on around them. We have also worked out subsidized publicity schemes for all cultural and non-profit groups to encourage them to publicize their events so that the British-Arab population feels more invited. By all this we will bring together communities from different races and faiths, and promoting a shared sense of belonging

The paper is a space where British-Arabs, Arabs and all other communities in Britain can share personal opinions, experiences, success stories, knowledge and potential solutions to problems. These contributions will inevitably turn into debates, which will be monitored by our editor, and which will grant the newspaper the quality of an interactive site, where ideas are discussed and perceptions altered.

Contents:

The contents of the paper can be categorized as following:

1.      News

Local and National news both with focus and space for local news will be around 70% leaving the rest for National news. The news section will be like a news round and will cover news for the last weeks. 

2.      General affairs

This section covers issues such as social, cultural, racial, moral, ethical, health and education issues for Arabs without discrimination to any sex, race, or religion or demographic division.

3.      Interviews

Interviews of political, religious, diplomatic personalities as well as business men, successful professionals and celebrities will be conducted and published.

4.      features

Several issues can be considered and then based around those issues some real stories can be collected and printed.

5.      Sports

All English and Arabic sports will get due coverage

6.      family affairs

We want this newspaper to take a place in the households and families. Therefore we will focus on various general interests of mothers and youngsters. The full scope of this is very large and diversified too.

7.      Religious Issues

As far as the news is concerned we will cover without any discrimination all religions of England and Arabs. As far as the religious issues are concerned the paper will have a policy to stick to rational views which if presented in the correct way can not offend any one.
